Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a 100% subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG today announced that – despite supply chain headwinds and adverse cost environment – 2022 was one of the most successful business years since starting its manufacturing operations in India. The company reported a revenue growth of 37% and a sales growth of 25% in CY 2022 over CY 2021. 2022 was especially the best year of growth as DICV sold a total of 29,470 domestic and export units of trucks and buses in the calendar year.

Additionally, DICV confirmed that in 2022 it crossed the production milestone of 200,000 vehicles (including domestic and exports) and 200,000 transmissions at its Oragadam manufacturing facility. The company recorded its best ever annual vehicle exports with 11,000 units, best-ever annual part sales (over 245 million parts) and best-ever annual domestic vehicle sales in 2022.

Commenting on DICV’s 2022 annual performance, Satyakam Arya – Managing Director & CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles said, “CY2022 was one of our strongest performing years with 37% growth in revenue and 25% growth in sales. We crossed remarkable production milestones as well. We achieved this delightful business success, in just 10 years of our operations in India, having made significant investments in the market since the beginning and steered our way through the complexities the commercial vehicles industry had to tackle in last decade. Our strong financial and sales performance is in spite of the pandemic heavily affecting the commercial vehicle sales in last three years. We achieved this performance by consistently improving our cost and revenue position. In addition, we made significant investments in expanding our product portfolio and launched 10 new models of BharatBenz trucks to offer customers a comprehensive portfolio of tonnage options to select from. We are continuing to work diligently on transforming the way we will be doing business in India by investing on Digitalization, Servitization, Sustainability, Diversity and Inclusion as the cornerstones of our strategy going forward. We have expanded our R&D operations, have a sharper focus on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, upskilling & reskilling our workforce, and many such initiatives to meet our vision in the mobility space for the near and medium term.”

BharatBenz excellence

In the last decade, DICV has made its prominence felt in the construction and mining space where BharatBenz heavy-duty trucks dominate the segment. Earlier this year, BharatBenz unveiled a comprehensive portfolio of high-powered heavy-duty trucks, such as 3532CM mining tipper, 2832CM mining tipper, 5532 tip-trailer, options ranging from 6×4 and 10×4, especially for construction and mining utility. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

With an eye on the future, DICV has started focused initiatives around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to bring in a more cohesive work culture by helping people revitalize their socio-professional values to help them prepare for a challenging but exciting future. The company has stepped up its Learning & Development initiatives to strengthen the capabilities of its employees so that the learnings can be channeled back into the growth of the organization in the next decade.

Satyakam Arya added, “DICV recognizes the importance and contribution of people towards the growth of the organization. Manufacturing is a people-intensive industry. The nuance, dedication and passion that a human can bring to the system is really incomparable but does complement the technological advancements that are benefiting businesses. I believe that people will play a significant role in moving the needle to achieve the next paradigm in a world that is heavily dependent on technology and digitalization. So, we recognize our responsibility as leaders to help prepare our people for what they will face in the future.”

Environment, Social & Governance

In the framework of its sustainable business strategy with focus on ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) DICV is working strenuously towards becoming CO2 neutral in its operations by 2025. The company’s 430-acre manufacturing facility in Oragadam has 85% of its operations already using renewable energy, among others generated by an in-house 3.3MW photovoltaic plant. The facility is 90% water self-reliant and has an expansive green cover from its Miyawaki forest.

Mobility & Innovation

In 2022, DICV had partnered with IIT Madras Research Park to identify solutions and incubate new ideas to help the company have a formidable presence in the mobility space. DICV is in the process of incubating more start-up companies in 2023 to take its transformational initiatives further.

DICV manufactures four truck brands in its Oragadam facility, near Chennai – BharatBenz (domestic brand), Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner and Mitsubishi Fuso. Top quality transmissions manufactured in Oragadam are used in BharatBenz trucks and are exported to Europe. WinZO launches Cybersecurity Program to build open source technologies to tackle cyber vulnerabilities

There was an 8% spike in cybercrime in Asia Pacific Regions in 2021.

This program is aimed at developing freely accessible tools & resources for our Nation that are needed to defend against threats that can disrupt, destroy, or threaten the delivery of essential services

Globally, 3.5 million cybersecurity jobs are available

Plans to scale the programme to 100 colleges in two years including a curriculum to co-create cyber security technologies

WinZO, India’s largest social gaming and interactive entertainment technology platform, has announced the launch of its new cyber security challenge programme, Code Health and Security Evaluation (CHASE) – (WinZO CHASE) in partnership with Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi (IIT-D), Delhi Technological University (DTU), Netaji Subhash University of Technology (NSUT), and IIID. The programme aims to invest in and develop open-source technology and best practices that can be used by businesses, government agencies, and other organizations to protect against cyber actors who exploit vulnerabilities to steal information, and money, and are developing capabilities to disrupt, destroy, or threaten the delivery of essential services. As most solutions are now delivered in a digital environment, it becomes the most important vulnerability and National Security threat.

Through this program, WinZO along with the partnered institutes aims to develop open-source technologies for cyber security: information and event management, endpoint detection & response protocols, security orchestration, encryption, and penetration testing and detection technology. The first phase of the program would also be extending a scholarship of Rs.5 lacs to the winners. Top-performing participants are also eligible for internships and pre-placement interviews at WinZO.

WinZO has a 100 million registered user base and facilitates over four billion micro-transactions per month. In this biggest micro-transaction economy of the country, the safety of transacting users and the integrity of data is most important. Since its launch on 7th April, WinZO has seen over 1000 registrations for the challenge and has already started receiving submissions.

Paavan Nanda, Co-founder of WinZO said: “We aspire to build world-class technology and solutions out of India and extend our solutions to the entire ecosystem to scale the impact, that is the role of any platform business. Preventing attacks or mitigating the spread of an attack as quickly as possible is of utmost importance for a platform that scales across over 100 million users, 20% of which are making their first digital payments. Any cyber-attack, no matter how small, is a threat to our national security and must be identified, managed, and shut down. Young engineers need to develop an early outlook for security threats and solutions that can help organizations stay ahead of emerging threats.”

Launched in early 2018, WinZO hosts over 100 skill-based games in 12 vernacular languages. It has a registered user base of over 100 million, of which around 90% hail from tier II and beyond. All schools in Delhi, both public and private, are participating in a unique 9-9-9 challenge organized by the C20 Working Group on Integrated Holistic Health – Mind, Body, Environment, in association with Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education (GNCTD).

The 9-9-9 Challenge, which stands for “9 SURYA NAMASKARS, 9 MINS OF MEDITATION, 9 DAYS,” began on April 18, 2023 and will run for 9 consecutive days, barring two days (Sunday and the festival of Eid al-Fitr). It aims to encourage thousands of school children in the national capital to make Yoga and meditation a part of their daily lives.

The G20 (Group of 20) is a forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union. It works to address major issues related to the global economy. C20 provides a platform for Civil Society Organizations (CSO) around the world to voice people’s aspirations to the world leaders in G20. World-renowned spiritual leader and humanitarian Mata Amritanandamayi (Amma) is the Chair of C20. The C20 working group on Integrated Holistic Health aims to widen the discussions on different facets of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. AYUDH India, an international youth movement guided by Amma and present across six continents, has partnered with the C20 Working Group to conduct this challenge across the country.

Said Dr. Priya Nair, Clinical Associate Professor, Paripoorna – Centre for Comprehensive Women’s Healthcare, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Amrita Hospital who is also the Co-Lead of the working group Integrated Holistic Health – Mind, Body and Environment “We are delighted to organize this unique Yoga challenge in association with the Delhi Government’s Directorate of Education (GNCTD) for students in the national capital. The 9-9-9 challenge was initiated in February this year and more than 15,000 students have already participated in it from all over the country. We hope that this initiative will inspire more and more children in the world to embrace a healthy lifestyle.”

She added: “The 9-9-9 challenge is to practice 9 rounds of Surya Namaskar and 9 minutes of Meditation for World Peace daily for 9 days and then reflect on the impact it had on one’s life. The challenge highlights how yoga and meditation can have a major impact on mental health and physical well-being. Participants of the challenge have reported experiencing positive changes in their life outlooks, energy levels and overall sense of well-being. This, in turn, contributed to an atmosphere of peace within their schools and families. The goal is to reach 1 million people around the world by International Day of Yoga on June 21st.”

During a virtual address, Shri Himanshu Gupta (IAS), Director of Education, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, said, “Since its inception in February 2023, dozens of schools and thousands of students across the country have already participated in the 9-9-9 challenge organized by the C20 Group of Integrated Holistic Health, highlighting the significant impact that yoga and meditation can have on mental health. The core principle is centered around creating outer peace through inner peace. The stated goal of the C20 is to reach over one million participants by the International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2023. I wish them all success in this noble endeavor, and I am very happy at the enthusiastic response of students to the challenge.

The activities to be conducted by the students have been carefully chosen. The health benefits of Surya Namaskar are well known. It improves blood circulation, strengthens heart function, stimulates a rhythmic breathing process which increases the oxygen content of the blood, expands the lungs, and is beneficial for digestive health. Its consistent practice sharpens one's ability to focus and calms down the nervous system, helping manage anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

Meditation helps in improving concentration, focus and attention span, help improves the brain structure, reduces chronic stress, and counters the effects of anxiety, fear, worry and tension. The World Peace Meditation, which is part of the 9-9-9 challenge, has additions benefits. It helps individuals develop compassion and empathy for the fellow beings and balance the Prana-Shakti (Vital energy) in the body.
