Tamil Nadu State Olympic Association send off all 446 Athletes to participate in 37th National games


 Tamil Nadu State Olympic Association President Isari Ganesh and General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna send off 446 athletes from Tamil Nadu participating in the National Games to be held in Goa and also launched the official uniforms and sports equipment for the parade of athletes participating in the 37th National Games at a function held at Nehru Indoor Stadium, Chennai.

 

Tamilnadu State Olympic Association is sending a contingent of 446 Athletes will take part in 36 disciplines & along with 116 Officials for the 37th National Games tobe held at Goa from 25th October to 9th November 2023 at 5 Centres and all of them were send off to Goa by TNOA President Isari Ganesh and TNOA General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna along with TNAA Secretary C. Latha.


Speaking on the occasion, General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna said that the Tamil Nadu athlete's dream of winning a gold medal at the Olympics will soon come true. And as a preview for that, he said, we have won medals in the Asian Games. He said that a grand function would soon be held in their honor and all the players who had participated in the Asian Games would be arranged to attend along with their parents. And also added that the Tamil Nadu State Olympic Association will hold a grand mini Olympic Games in January.

The highlight of the training camp was an invigorating Masterclass today led by India’s first gold medalist wrestler Geeta Phogat. Ms Phogat shared invaluable insights into Fitness Training, addressing students, parents, and teachers alike. Attendees had the privilege of interacting with the celebrity sports icon, gaining inspiration and wisdom from her exceptional journey.

 

The sports training camp, held at Orchids The International School, Rohtak branch, featured intensive coaching sessions in Cricket, Football, Basketball, Athletics, and Swimming, led by expert instructors from DaOne, ensuring participants received unparalleled guidance. Over 300 citizens participate in the New Delhi edition of the global ‘Walk for Freedom’ to raise awareness about human trafficking

 

They joined thousands of others across 100 other locations in India and 500+ locations in 50 countries, on the world’s largest simultaneous Walk against modern-day slavery.

 

Over 300 citizens from corporates, colleges and NGOs participated in the Walk for Freedom to raise awareness about human trafficking at New Delhi this morning.

 

The Walk was declared open by Sh. Gaurav Saini, SDM, Defence Colony. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “That he is happy to see so many young faces on a Saturday morning, walking for the cause and these walks should happen more in Delhi”

 

At the start of the Walk participants in New Delhi and across the nation took a pledge to do everything possible within their means to help end trafficking in their lifetimes. They then walked single file holding placards with information and statistics about human trafficking starting from and returning to DDA park GK1 via public roads in the vicinity.The Walk was a completely silent Walk-in solidarity with voiceless victims of human trafficking. 

 

This was New Delhi’s third year participating in the Walk for Freedom, which was made possible by the coming together of the city’s colleges, corporates and civil society community members, led by NGO Justice Ventures India and The Movement India’s Delhi team. Participating institutions include NGOs, colleges & corporates such as Ashray India, Shiksha Rath, Hansraj college and HDFC Sales Pvt Ltd.

 

49.6 million peopleare caught in various forms of modern-day slavery globally, including exploitation for sex, labour, organs, baby selling, forced marriages and domestic servitude, reports the International Labour Organisation (2022). This means that 1 in every 150 people globally are enslaved. Here in India, 8 children were trafficked every day in 2021 according to the Crime in India Report, National Crime Records Bureau (2021). In Delhi, as recently as May 2023, 41 child labourers, hailing from Bihar, Jharkhand or West Bengal, were rescued from toy factories in Azad Market. They were made to work from 9 am till midnight every day, were not provided with adequate food, decent clothing, or shelter, and were made to live in the same confined room. Their rescue was made possible by the joint effort of the Delhi police and a few NGOs.(India Today, DNA India

Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon raises 5 million meals for children through #RunForZeroHunger

The second edition of the prestigious Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon which concluded earlier today witnessed the participation of 35,000+ runners in support of the cause of #RunForZeroHunger. The record participation, 50% higher than last year, extended across five events including the flagship Half Marathon, Open 10K Run, Great Delhi Run, Senior Citizens’ Run, and Champions with Disability Run. Vedanta’s commitment of providing 1 meal to children for every 1 km run added up to 5 million meals in total. These meals will be served across Vedanta’s network of nearly 6,000 Nand Ghars, which are modernized, state-of-the-art Anganwadis, in the coming weeks. Nand Ghar is the flagship social impact programme of Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal Foundation and operates in 14 states across India.

The races were flagged off by Ms. Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Non-Executive Director, Vedanta and Chairperson, Hindustan Zinc Ltd. in the presence of Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur, Honourable Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and I&B, GoI, Mr. Vinai Kumar Saxena, Honourable Lieutenant Governor of NCT of Delhi and Ms. Atishi, Minister of Education, Govt of NCT of Delhi along with other dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion Hebbar said, “What we witnessed today was the immense power of participative sport to mobilise people from all walks of life and come together for fun, fitness and, most importantly, a cause. It is the dream of our Chairman, Shri Anil Agarwal, that every child in India sleeps with a stomach full of nutritious food. We want to make #RunForZeroHunger a mass movement involving every Indian, just like we want every Anganwadi in this country to become a modern Nand Ghar.”

Recently, Vedanta through Anil Agarwal Foundation launched a millet-based nutri-bar that provides supplementary nutrition to children at Anganwadis including Nand Ghars. Early results from the network of Nand Ghars are promising and indicate an improvement in nutritional outcomes. To share this experience with the runners, every participant at the VDHM 2023 was given these multi-millet bars.

Many celebrities and influencers including Actors Bhumi Pednekar, Ashish Vidyarthi, Fitness Coach Yasmin Karachiwala, Wrestlers Sangram Singh & Sakshi Malik, Actors Payal Rohatgi, Sara Khan, Kangan Nangia, Pankhuri Awasthy, Fashion Designer Nikhil Mehra, RJ Vidit, Masterchef Finalist Gurkirat Singh lent their support to the cause of #RunForZeroHunger in the run-up to the event. Ashton Eaton, two-time Olympic medalist and World Champion athlete, the brand Ambassador for VDHM 2023 and Indian women’s national cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur & Actor and Sports Enthusiast Gul Panag, motivated the runners at the marathon.

The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon also saw active participation from nearly 30,000 employees of the title sponsor. While some ran in Delhi, others participated via mini-marathons in their business locations and through the StepSetGo app, leading to the race day.

A Finisher’s medal was awarded to the runners. The medal is made from purest and highestrade zinc from world’s largest & oldest mines in Rajasthan, produced by Hindustan Zinc Limited, a vertical of Vedanta Group.
