HONEYWELL LAUNCHES INNCOM DIRECT TO HELP MID-MARKET HOTELS REDUCE THEIR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Intuitive energy management system helps hotels monitor energy consumption across properties and automate energy efficiencies

Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) today announced the launch of INNCOM Direct, an easy-to-install energy management system that uses automation to help improve energy efficiency in mid-market hotel properties. The launch of INNCOM Direct supports Honeywell’s alignment of its business around three compelling megatrends, including automation and the energy transition.

With more than 30% of U.S. hotel rooms typically vacant at any time, INNCOM Direct enables a hotel to manage energy-intensive HVAC systems more efficiently during periods when guestrooms are vacant.

“As hotels become more carbon-conscious, they are taking meaningful steps to show they care about their impact on the environment,” said Billal Hammoud, president and chief executive officer of Honeywell Building Automation. “Until now, mid-market hotels faced fewer options when it came to better managing their HVAC systems with automation. Now, INNCOM Direct is leveling the playing field with an affordable, cloud-based energy management system.”

The INNCOM technology was previously only available to high-end hotel operators. Now, this combination of hardware, software and cloud monitoring provides mid-market, also known as limited-service, hotels with quick setup and portfolio analytics that can be accessed from mobile devices or a dashboard and can be used either on a single property or across an entire portfolio.

Since empty rooms and common areas do not need the same level of heating or cooling, INNCOM Direct uses a proprietary detection system to identify empty spaces and autonomously adjust the temperature without impacting consumer comfort. Similarly, unrented guest rooms can be set to a specific setting that can be heated or cooled to a more comfortable temperature once a guest checks in. If a guest leaves a room for an extended time, INNCOM Direct can change the temperature to an eco-friendlier temperature that is then automatically adjusted when the guest returns.

When it broke ground on its fifth hotel in Spring Hill, Tenn., Halifax Hospitality wanted ways to control its HVAC use, which can consume as much as 25% of the power bill, so it signed on to use INNCOM Direct. At 92,000 square feet and 159 rooms, this hotel is double the size of what the company would have developed a decade ago, leading to higher operational costs.

“Hotel rooms are getting bigger and bigger, and we needed something that will deliver energy savings, especially when guests aren’t using the room or a common area is empty,” said Hitesh Patel, vice president of Halifax Hospitality. “Utility costs are going up just like anything else. We’re always looking to find the next big thing to cut costs where we can.”

Free Advanced Hearing Devices for Deaf and Mute Children

*Distributed by WeHear Organization,  patent owner from Ahmedabad, Device is non surgical solution for Hearing Imparied.

*Bone Conduction Technology for Enhanced Hearing*l

*Devices Provided to Students of Government Deaf Residential School, Malakpet, Hyderabad at Samagra Shiksha office

Dr. Chandrasekhar, CEO of Jain Educational Institutions, emphasized that while equal opportunities for everyone in society are challenging to achieve, striving toward them and providing such opportunities is commendable. Under the auspices of We Hear Innovations Private Limited, advanced hearing devices were distributed free of charge to five children from the Government Deaf School in Malakpet. The distribution event took place at the SPD office located in the Central Secretariat on Secretariat Road on Thursday morning. Initially, all students from the Government Deaf Residential School in Malakpet were screened, and five students were identified and provided with Hear NU, a state-of-the-art hearing device. Unlike regular hearing aids that work through air conduction, these devices function through bone conduction. The device comprises two parts: a wristband with a microphone that picks up all kinds of sounds and transmits them via Bluetooth to the headband, which the users wear on their heads, near their ears. The sounds are then transmitted through bone conduction, allowing the deaf to hear.

Vijay Shah, Drector of WeHear Innovations Pvt Ltd Ahmedabad and Adesh Agarwal handed over these advanced devices to the children. They mentioned that in next month, they are going to conduct similar camps in various districts of Telangana, identify deaf children, raise funds, and provide these devices for free.

During the event, Dr. Chandrasekhar, CEO of Jain Educational Institutions, expressed his pride and said, “Today, I feel very proud. Not everyone in society is the same, but everyone should have equal opportunities. These children often do not receive the opportunities they deserve. I commend Vijay Shah and Adesh Agarwal. The donation they are making to these children will change their lives. Allready in India Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Assam, accross world 2500+ kids got benefits of this technology. They will be able to hear, respond, and integrate into mainstream society. We all need to come together as a society. So far, 1,455 children have been tested in Hyderabad. To provide devices to all of them, we all need to contribute. They provided these devices to five children, and this is just the first step. Next, we need to provide speech therapy so that they can eventually speak fully.”

Nagalakshmi, the principal of the Government Deaf School in Malakpet, said, “We have 120 children in our school, and they have all been tested. During the test trials, five children were identified. Air conduction is not working well enough, and it only allows them to hear low-frequency sounds. The bone conduction device they provided is excellent. It works well for moderate to severe hearing impairments. They are even able to recognize sounds coming from behind. They can tell how many times the school bell rang even if it was rung from behind. We are trying to integrate these children with the general population. Along with providing hearing devices to all our students, we will also offer speech therapy. We are grateful for this opportunity.”

Audiologist Sangeeta from the Government Deaf Residential School in Malakpet and school representative Pratima also participated in the event. The students who received the hearing devices include fourth-grade student Rishik, seventh-grade student R. Chandu, and tenth-grade students Mohammed Jafar, M. Teja, and B. Karthik.

DBS Foundation invites applications for its 2024 Grant Award

Applications open until August 31, 2024

DBS Foundation celebrates its 10th anniversary; SGD 17 million awarded in grants to 140 Businesses for Impact since 2014

DBS Foundation is inviting applications for its 2024 Grant, which provides funding to innovative, purpose-driven businesses tackling pressing social challenges across Asia.

Now in its tenth year, DBS Foundation is committed to uplifting the lives and livelihoods of vulnerable communities. This year, the grant will focus on scaling innovative and impactful solutions providing access to essential needs such as healthcare, basic education, and shelter, or equipping communities with the skills and opportunities to build better circumstances. Enterprises are eligible to apply for the grant until August 31, 2024.

The DBS Foundation Grant will help enterprises fund various growth initiatives, including entering new markets, R&D for new products, enhancing product or service offerings, and building the infrastructure required for growth. Beyond funding, recipients of the Grant can also tap into the bank’s expertise, resources, and networks for capacity-building, mentorship, and preferential banking solutions.

Since 2014, DBS Foundation has provided over SGD 17 million in grant funding to some 140 Businesses for Impact (BFIs) – businesses with a dual bottom line of profit and impact – to grow sustainably and create social and/or environmental impact. It has also nurtured 1,200 others via various development and support programs.

The DBS Foundation Grant seeks to address funding challenges faced by purpose-driven social enterprises and small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs). It bridges this gap by providing flexible capital tailored to their needs. Unlike conventional capital focused on near-term returns, the DBS Foundation Grant takes a long-term view on nurturing impact-driven enterprises. It provides a crucial runway for innovators to capitalise on and scale their models sustainably before profitability kicks in, while helping these businesses align their mission with their growth strategy.

In 2023, 24 BFIs from across six markets were awarded the DBS Foundation Grant to create a positive impact and accelerate growth. These enterprises aimed to benefit one million people from underprivileged segments by increasing access to solutions and providing daily needs; abate and/or save 30,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions; and collect, reduce, or recycle 50,000 tonnes of waste by the end of 2025. Indian businesses—Project Baala, Green Worms, Zerund Manufacturing, KaroSambhav, and Sustainable Solutions (ReCircle)—were among the recipients of the grant. Enterprises such as Phool, Haqdarshak, and S4S Technologies have also been past recipients.

AzmatHabibulla, Managing Director – Group Strategic Marketing & Communications, DBS Bank India, said, “Through the DBS Foundation Grant, we support changemakers who trust their spark and pursue their passion to make a meaningful difference in the world. We back high-potential, high-impact enterprises and help accelerate innovations that address pressing societal and environmental challenges. As DBS Foundation marks its tenth anniversary in 2024, we continue to integrate these purpose-driven businesses into our ecosystem in a meaningful way, leveraging our collective strengths to drive an impact beyond banking.”

Social enterprises and SMEs that are registered in the bank’s six key markets in Asia (Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, India, and Indonesia) can apply for the grant. Applicants will be assessed based on the following criteria:

·         At least 2 years of track record in delivering and measuring social impact with vulnerable communities.

·         An innovative business and impact model with proven market traction and strong revenue growth.

·         Clear and focused plans to use the grant funding to commercialise and scale the business and impact over the next 2 years.

·         Strong leadership with a clear commitment toward building a sustainable business for impact, and a strong team with relevant expertise and experience.

All applications for the DBS Foundation Grant received before August 31, 2024, 9:30 PM IST will be evaluated for this year’s installment, and applications received thereafter will be evaluated in the next cycle.

In 2023, DBS Bank announced that it will deploy up to SGD 1 billion over the next 10 years[i] to improve the lives and livelihoods of the underprivileged and underserved and foster a more inclusive society. Funds will be allocated towards programs that aim to support this vulnerable segment in the community, which will include helping them with immediate daily needs, such as food and housing, improving access to education, and equipping them with important life skills such as digital and financial literacy.
