BENGALURU, India, April 26, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — ExxonMobil Services & Technology Private Limited today handed over 100 groundwater-recharge pits to the Karnataka Forest Department, in the presence of GS Charan, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Bengaluru South Sub Division.

Created in six parks in the Jayanagar area and the Kadugodi Tree Park, Whitefield, these percolation pits (12×4 ft. each) will help clean rainwater to seep through the soil and replenish groundwater. The handover took place at the sprawling Kadugodi Tree Park developed by the Karnataka Forest Department and recently rejuvenated as part of Bengaluru Mission 2022.

ExxonMobil’s contribution is part of United Way Bengaluru’s (UWBe) ambitious ‘One Billion Drops’ initiative, which aims to collect 1 billion litres of rainwater annually to enhance groundwater recharge in city parks.

Studies show that a robust rainwater harvesting system can help address more that 70% of Bengaluru’s water demand. Hence, the Bengaluru administration has a strong focus on rainwater harvesting not only to create an additional supply source for activities other than drinking, cooking and bathing, but also to avoid water-logging during heavy rains.

Underscoring the need to join forces to combat climate change, HE Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, asserted the need to work together to create a green, sustainable and equitable future during her interaction with youth at TERI GRAM on the first day of her visit to India.

Climate change and biodiversity loss are at the top of the political agenda of the European Union (EU) and India. Observing that the young should raise their voice for climate action, the President said, “Youth are the advocates to fight climate change as well as to fight for the planet. But they are also the ones who develop solutions.”

From living more sustainable lifestyles to making their voices heard on the street and advocating for greener policies, young people are at the heart of the solution. The EU through its Research and Innovation Programme ‘Horizon 2020’ has funded several projects (investing close to Euro 20 million) with TERI’s participation, focused on climate change (e.g. ENGAGE & CD-LINKS) and water (e.g. PAVITRA GANGA).

Youth programme in India

The youth participating in the discussion were selected from a large group of participants in the annual Youth Climate Conclave, which is organised annually under the Strategic Partnership for Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPIPA) project by TERI, GIZ India, CEEW and the EU Delegation to India. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) is the nodal Ministry for the initiative. The Youth Climate Conclave seeks to engage in a positive and proactive way with the youth in science-based discussions about the most relevant climate change issues. A few Indian Erasmus students also participated in the discussion. For last two years, India has been the top recipient of the prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarships. There are over 6,000 Indian Erasmus Mundus scholars who have studied in Europe under this programme.
Cooperation between TERI and the EU

The cooperation between TERI and the EU goes long back, with many joint projects funded under the EU Framework Research and Innovation Programme across diverse areas, such as climate action, resource efficiency and circular economy, smart and sustainable urbanisation.

A recurring yearly event in the EU’s cooperation with TERI is the EU’s participation in TERI’s flagship event World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS). The centre is a member of EU Nanonetwork as well as the International Initiative for Safe and Sustainable Nanoproducts (INISS-Nano). SBI General Insurance records 50% growth in its GWP for the health insurance line of business in FY 21-22

SBI General Insurance, one of India’s leading General Insurance companies today announced its financial results for FY 2021-22. The company demonstrated strong growth in the health insurance segment with a 50% growth in GWP, whereas it has reported an overall growth of 11% in GWP.

For the FY 2021-22, SBI General booked a total GWP of INR 9260 crores, compared to INR 8312 crores in the previous fiscal, and maintained its market share of 4.15%. The company has registered steady growth year-on-year, expanding its services to over 3.34 crore customers in the financial year FY22, which is up by 15.3% from last year. Apart from this the company has also witnessed a spike of 17% GWP in motor insurance segment.

In FY 2021-22, SBI General has expanded its footprint and scaled up the distribution reach through bancassurance, OEM tie-ups and digital integrations. The company has added some of the leading names in their strategic partnerships viz Bajaj Finserv, IDFC First Bank, Google Pay, and Uttarbanga Kshetriya Gramin Bank to name a few.
