The Hyderabad Management Association (HMA) organised the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Leadership Program at Tourism Plaza, Begumpet, Hyderabad, bringing together policymakers, academic leaders, sustainability practitioners, and industry professionals to explore ESG as a key driver of responsible growth and leadership.

Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, outlined Telangana’s vision of becoming a USD 3 trillion economy, emphasizing inclusive and sustainable development. Sustainability is central to the state’s agenda, with a commitment to Net Zero emissions by 2047. He  stressed Pharma & Supply Chain Responsibility, stating that pharmaceutical companies must be fully ESG-compliant, with responsibility extending across the entire supply chain, including suppliers adhering to ESG standards and reporting norms. Praising HMA, he noted that the association’s initiative is coming at the right time, aligned with Telangana’s Net Zero vision and European ESG norms, helping industries and institutions prepare for global standards. ESG compliance, he reiterated, is essential for global competitiveness and exports.

Prof. V. Balakista Reddy, Chairman, Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE), Guest of Honour, placed ESG in a global context, referencing the Stockholm, Rio, and Johannesburg Summits. He encouraged HMA to focus on environmentally responsible practices and strong governance frameworks. Highlighting academia’s role, he emphasized generating green jobs and building multi-disciplinary skills to address environmental challenges and climate resilience.

Prof. Sunaina Singh, Former Vice-Chancellor, Nalanda University, shared Nalanda’s journey towards carbon net-zero, highlighting sustainable design principles including the use of mud bricks and climate-responsive architecture, demonstrating the integration of tradition with modern sustainability practices.

The social and financial dimensions of ESG were addressed by Ms. Manisha Saboo, who emphasized impact-driven CSR, and Prof. (Dr.) Sriharsha Reddy K, highlighting climate change as a systemic financial risk and the importance of green finance.

Providing balanced perspectives on governance, global context, and capability building, Mr. Anirban Ghosh spoke on robust ESG governance and supply-chain accountability, Mr. Suresh Kochattil reflected on India’s green journey in the global sustainability discourse, and Ms. Chetana Jain, ESG Leadership Program Coordinator, addressed the growing demand for green jobs and structured ESG capability building.

Speaking on behalf of HMA, Mr. Sharath Chandra Maroju, Vice President, announced the upcoming HMA ESG Certification Program. Mr. Alwala Devender Reddy, President, emphasized that “Green must become a way of life, not a once-a-year ritual,” advocating individual accountability and a measurable Green Scorecard for citizens.

The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Vaasudevan G, Secretary, HMA, reaffirming HMA’s commitment to ESG leadership, action, and building future-ready talent.
